HOW DO CHRONIC EAR AND SINUS
INFECTIONS OCCUR?

Sinus infection is a condition in which the sinus cavities fill with bacteria-filled mucus, leading to inflammation. A sinus infection can also cause fluid to become trapped behind the eardrum. If bacteria or viruses grow there, this can develop into an ear infection.

Your body’s immune system is a powerful tool that can often tackle minor sinus or ear infections without medical intervention. Once the immune system becomes compromised, however, your body cannot fight ordinary infections as effectively. A suppressed immune system can cause sinus and ear infections to become chronic conditions.

Symptoms of Sinus Infections

The main symptoms of sinus infection include:

  • Pain or pressure between your eyes, behind your cheekbones and in your forehead
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Loss of smell
  • Congestion
  • Thick, green or yellow nasal discharge
  • Bad breath
  • Cough
  • Dental pain
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • What Is NUCCA?

While antibiotics remain the standard treatment for sinus and ear infections, other options are available to assist patients in rebuilding their compromised immune systems. Our upper cervical care (UCC) chiropractor Dr. Gertner uses the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA) technique to help treat sinus infections. The NUCCA technique is an advanced spinal correction procedure focusing on a safe and painless method to correct spinal alignment and restore proper body balance. The goal is to allow the nervous system to function optimally to promote natural healing.

How NUCCA Can Help Sinus Infections

For your immune system to function normally, there must be coordinated communication between the brain and spinal cord. Your autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a division of your body’s nervous system responsible for organizing the functions of blood vessels, organs and glands. Cervical spine misalignment can cause the ANS to become irritated, impacting immune response and your body’s ability to fight infection, including sinus and ear infections.

When you come to UCC of New York, we use advanced imaging and nervous system scans to locate any misalignment or possible irritation in the upper neck. If misalignment impacts ANS function, our chiropractor for ear infections makes specific, gentle adjustments by hand to ensure proper alignment in the neck. Once your adjustment is complete, follow-up scans and imaging studies confirm that your spinal correction was successful.

Why Choose Our UCC Chiropractor for Sinus Infection

Since your sinuses are part of your bone structure, Dr. Gertner can gently adjust your facial bones to improve drainage. During your examination, he may find a few vertebrae in your neck that are slightly out of alignment, impacting your sinus issues. With a gentle adjustment, Dr. Gertner can help your sinuses begin draining effectively once more and relieve any painful symptoms you may be experiencing.

Chiropractic adjustments can also provide preventive care for chronic sinus issues or allergies. Like the rest of your body, the sinuses rely on the nervous system. Receiving an adjustment can clear blockages from the nervous and respiratory systems, stimulating drainage and stopping mucus from collecting.

Our practice uses imaging and precise adjustments to treat the cause of your sinus issues instead of only relieving symptoms. Through our comprehensive care, we can aid in ending your sinus issues so you can continue to enjoy a sinus infection-free life.
